- Willingness to manipulate or exploit others in order to satisfy personal needs or avoid consequences for misbehavior.
- Repeated attempts to pit parents and/or peers against each other in order to gratify personal needs or escape punishment.
- Desire to seek thrills, excitement, or pleasure through acts of manipulation or deception.
- Persistent refusal to accept responsibility for deceitful or manipulative behavior.
- Verbal expressions give evidence of underlying feelings of insecurity or low self-esteem that contribute to the need to lie, falsify information, or manipulate others.
- Distinction between fantasy and reality is blurred by repeated lies or exaggerations.
