Low Self-Esteem Behaviors:

  • Verbalizes self-disparaging remarks, seeing self as unattractive, worthless, stupid, a loser, a burden, unimportant, and so on.
  • Takes blame easily.
  • Inability to accept compliments.
  • Refuses to take risks associated with new experiences, as child expects failure.
  • Avoids social contact with adults and peers.
  • Seeks excessively to please or receive attention/praise of adults and/or peers.
  • Unable to identify or accept positive traits or talents about self.
  • Fears rejection from others, especially peer group.
  • Acts out in negative, attention-seeking ways.
  • Difficulty saying no to others; fears not being liked by others.
